8 Parts of Yoga (As per Narad Puran)

1) Yama
2) Niyama
3) Aasana
4) Pranayaama
5) Pratyahar - The act of collecting the focus of our senses from various topics & stoppings this senses & its focus in the internals, such an effort is called Pratyahar. A person doing meditation without Pratyahar is a fool.
6) Dhaarnaa (Supposition) - Winning the senses & its focus by Pratyahaar, one holds this senses strongly in heart - this act is called Dhaarnaa
7) Dhyan (Meditation)
8) Samadhi - The peak point of meditation where a person can neither see, nor hear, nor smell , nor touch & nor speak.He gets zero thought or zero flashes with his eyes closed & focus in the internals.


7 Types of Yama (in short)
1) Ahinsa - Non violence i.e The feeling of never to give pain to any creature. This gives Siddhi in Yoga
2) Satya - Truth i.e. To tell something always keeping in mind the thought of Dharma (righteous act) & Adharma (non-righteous act)
3) Asteya - Not to steal or rob or take forcefully  the wealth of others
4) Brahmcharya - Celebacy ie. Renunciating all types of sexual happiness
5) Aparigraha - Not to save money or things even during times of calamity ie never to save. This gives higher Siddhis in Yoga
6) Akrodh - Not getting angry - Making one realise our higher achievement or higher status etc. & saying harsh words to someone with respect to our higher position, such a cruel & insenstive feeling of the mind is called "Krodh" or "Anger". The reverse feeling of peacefulness to this "Krodh" is called "Akrodh" or not getting angry
7) Ansuya - Not getting jealous ie On seeing someone getting higher by wealth or other things,  the heat or the effect arising in mind due to jealousy is called "Asuya". Renunciating this "Asuya" is called Ansuya


6 Types of Niyama (in short)
1) Tapa (Penance) - Making body thin & lean by doing vrats like Chandrayan etc. is called Tapa
2) Svadhyaya (Reading books etc.) - Japa, Adhyayan (reading/study) & thinking of "Omkar" (Om syllable), Upanishads, Dvadakashar mantra (Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaya), Astakshar mantra (Om Namo Narayana) & great sentences like "Tatvamasi" etc. is called Svadhyaya. This is also one of the best Sadhans(Tool) of Yoga. One who renunciates Svadhyaya do not get Siddhi in Yoga. But a person doing Svadhyaya & not performing Yoga gets the benefit bcos his sins are all washed away. Demi-gods gets pleased by Svadhyaya.
3) Santosh (Satisfaction) - Remaining satisfied by whatever is attained thru fate is called Santosh
4) Shauch (Cleanliness) - External & Internal cleanliness
5) Aaaradhna of Lord Vishnu (Worshipping Lord Vishnu)
6) Sandhyopasan
