What do do during an earthquake?

What to do during an earthquake?

1. Be aware that some earthquakes are actually foreshocks and a larger earthquake might occur.
2.If you are inside, then DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table or other piece of furniture
3. HOLD ON on until the shaking stops.
4. If there isn’t a table or desk near you, cover your face and head with your arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
5. If in bed cover your head with a pillow.
6. Stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
7. Stay inside until shaking stops and it is safe to go outside.
8. Research has shown that most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to a different location inside the building or try to leave.
9.DO NOT use the elevators.
10.If you are outside, then stay there.
11.Move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires.
12.Once you go in the open, stay there until the shaking stops.
13.The greatest danger exists directly outside buildings, at exits, and alongside exterior walls.
14.Most earthquake-related casualties result from collapsing walls, flying glass, and falling objects.
15.If in a moving vehicle then stop and stay in vehicle but avoid stopping near or under buildings, trees, overpasses, and utility wires.
16.If trapped under debris, don't light a match.
17.Cover your mouth with a handkerchief or clothing
18.Tap on a pipe or wall so rescuers can locate you.
19.Use a whistle if one is available.
20.Shout only as a last resort. Shouting can cause you to inhale dangerous amounts of dust.
21.If you are in a mountainous area or near unstable slopes or cliffs, be alert for falling rocks and other debris. Landslides are often triggered by earthquakes.

What to do after an earthquake?

What to do after an earthquake?

1.After an earthquake, the disaster may continue. Expect and prepare for potential aftershocks, landslides or even a tsunami.
2.Tsunamis are often generated by earthquakes.
3.Each time you feel an aftershock, drop, cover and hold on.
4.Aftershocks frequently occur minutes, days, weeks and even months following an earthquake.
5.Check yourself for injuries and get First Aid, if necessary, before helping injured or trapped persons.

6.If you have it in your area, call 9-1-1, then give first aid when appropriate.
7.Don’t try to move seriously injured people unless they are in immediate danger of further injury.
8.Put on long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, sturdy shoes and work gloves to protect against injury from broken objects.
9.Look quickly for damage in and around your home and get everyone out if your home is unsafe
10.When returned back to your house, watch for loose plaster, drywall, and ceilings that could fall.

11.Keep a portable radio for updated emergency information and instructions.
12.Check the telephones in your home or workplace to see if you can get a dial tone.
13.Make brief calls to report life-threatening emergencies bcos lines get jammed & one should talk less & only related to emergency as everyone wants to contact.
14.Look for and extinguish small fires. Fire is the most common hazard after an earthquake.
15.Fires followed the San Francisco earthquake of 1906 for 3 days, creating more damage than the earthquake.

16.Clean up spilled medications, bleach, gasoline or other flammable liquids immediately to avoid the hazard of a fire or chemical emergency.
17.Open closet and cabinet doors carefully as contents may have shifted.
18.Help people who require special assistance, such as infants, children and the elderly or disabled.
19.Watch out for fallen power lines or broken gas lines and stay out of damaged areas.
20.Keep animals under your direct control & watch animals closely.

21.Leash the dogs and place them in a fenced yard. This is because the behavior of pets may change dramatically after an earthquake. Normally quiet and friendly cats and dogs may become aggressive or defensive.
22.If you were away from home, return only when authorities say it is safe to do so. Use extreme caution and examine walls, floors, doors, staircases and windows to check for damage.
23.Be careful when driving after an earthquake and anticipate traffic light outages.
24.Use battery-powered lanterns or flashlights to inspect your home.
25.Kerosene lanterns, torches, candles, and matches may tip over or ignite flammables inside.

26.Inspect the entire length of chimneys carefully because Cracks in chimneys can be the cause of a fire years later.
27.Take pictures of the damage, both to the house and its contents, for insurance claims.
28.Stay out of damaged buildings.
29.Use stairs, not elevators
30.Unplug small electrical appliances

31.Bring keys, purses, wallets , warm clothing
32.Be prepared for aftershocks.
33.Co-operate with emergency personnel, keep informed & remain calm
34.If your community has experienced a disaster, register on the American Red Cross Safe and Well web site to let your family and friends know you are safe. You may also call 1-866-GET-INFO to register yourself and your family.

Lakshya Title Song

[Haan yehi rasta hai tera,
Tune ab jaana hai]..(2)
Haan yehi sapna hai tera,
Tune pehchaana hai

Haan yehi rasta hai tera,
Tune ab jaana hai
Haan yehi sapna hai tera,
Tune pehchaana hai
Tujhe ab ye dikhaana hai
Roke tujhko aandhiyaan,
Ya zameen aur aasmaan
Paayega jo lakshya hai tera...
Lakshya toh har haal mein paana hai....

Mushkil koi, aajaaye toh,
Parbat koyi, takraaye toh,
Taaqat koyi, dikhlaaye toh,
Toofaan koyi, mandraaye toh
Mushkil koyi aajaaye toh,
Parbat koyi takraaye toh
[Barse chaahe ambar se aag,
Lipte chaahe pairon se laakh]...(2)
Paayega jo lakshya hai tera
Lakshya toh har haal mein paana hai...

Himmat se jo koyi chale,
Dharti hille kadmon tale
Kya dooriyaan kya faasle,
Manzil lage aake gale
Himmat se jo koyi chale,
Dharti hille qadmon tale
Tu chal yunhi ab suboh-shaam,
Rukna, jhukna nahin tera kaam
Tu chal yunhi ab suboh-shaam,
Rukna, jhukna nahin tera kaam
Paayega jo lakshya hai tera
Lakshya toh har haal mein paana hai

Haan yehi rasta hai tera,
Tune ab jaana hai
Haan yehi sapna hai tera,
Tune pehchaana hai
Tujhe ab ye dikhaana hai.
