10 tips to make excel file speedier
1) Avoid NOW () formula and TODAY() formula as far as possible
2) Avoid Random formula called RAND
3) AVOID array formulas and adopt Helper columns
4) Avoid Conditional formatting as far as possible as this feature is volatile.
5) Used Named ranges ie instead of A:A use A1:A10
6) Prefer static values in place of unused formulas
7) Use manual calculation mode by going through Formula Tab - Calculation options - Manual (press F9 key to recalculate) Don't let excel recalculate automatically and waste your time.
8) Use Iferror instead of if and iserror
9) Use Max formula where possible in place of If formula
10) Use Index/Match combination in place of Vlookup

This means

And defence budget of USA is 686 billion dollars =

Why are Array formulas used?
Array formulas cannot be typed
The shortcut key to apply array formula to a selected cell or column of selected cell is
SHIFT + CTRL + ENTER
After pressing this key, braces followed by = sign appears, which is not possible on typing.
Array formula is used when you want sum of product of 2 columns in a single cell
Eg {=B2:B51*C2:C51}
However this formula makes sheet slower.
So not recommendable.
Instead add 1 more column for product and simply do B2*C2, B3*C3 etc
If needed, you can hide this column and get final value in one cell by using = formula or simply 'copy paste values'
